Fun Friday: Good works
For this edition of Fun Fridays we were asked to blog about charities. Which ones we support, why we support… and for me, this post couldn’t have come at a better time.
I support plenty of charities because I believe it is the right thing to do. But I CREATED one because it is the one thing I had to do. My charity is the Good Works Coalition. And right now it is keeping me very busy!
We are in the midst of a campaign to raise $3,000 for scholarships presented in memory of two very important people: Toni Menchan (my middle school principal) and Lennell Jackson, Jr. (my dear friend). Both of these individuals brought good to my life and through their memory I try to bring good to the lives of others.
Aside from the scholarships, we collect food and clothes for the less fortunate. We send care packages to troops stationed overseas through our Adopt-a-Troop Program. We work with kids and recently hosted a seminar called “Real Talk” for high school girls to discuss issues affecting teenagers. We have had a busy year!
It is a lot of work, but it’s all good. Good works!
