Which Candidate Will Change the Stock Market

by profsilver on November 1st, 2008

Whether it is the “Straight Talk Express” or the “Yes We Can” crew, both parties are talking about change.  Would the election of either change the stock market for the better?

Funny, while typing this I saw a McCain ad that was pretty straight to the point: “Barack Obama.  Higher Taxes.  More Spending.  Not Ready.”

And who can forget, “the fundamentals of the economy are strong” on a day when the Dow lost 500+points.

The primetime finger pointing will soon come to an end, but in the meantime I have seen a few theories floating around about the candidates and the stock market:

Since the months leading up to the election have been down, a new party will win the White House…

Stocks are down because the tax increases promised by an Obama-Biden win have already been factored into prices…

The stock market does better under Democrats…

Well, past performance is no guarantee of future results and who knows how long it would take for their agendas to become active (assuming that they stick to them).  So, I can’t say which candidate would be better for the stock market.  But I will say this: if one candidate is better for the stock market that doesn’t necessarily make him a better candidate for President.

Here’s a good place to start (or at this late date) finish your research: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122497140074869661.html?mod=googlenews_wsj
